Babyshower Games: They're Good for a Dose of Laughter

A baby shower gives close friends and relatives of the expectant mother the chance to celebrate the coming of her baby with her. To add to the fun of the event, several babyshower games can be played. Planning for these games doesn’t really involve a lot of time and expensive material requirements. You can buy many baby shower games in stores or online for maximum convenience, or you can come up with a few fun ideas of your own and use materials that are easily available in your own home or purchase them cheaply at retail establishments.

Conducting babyshower games is not a requirement for a successful shower; you can just sit around and chat with the guest of honor, the other guests while munching on party food, and watch the enjoyment of the mother-to-be as she opens her gifts. That kind of event is pleasant enough. But sometimes guests at baby showers are not that well-acquainted with each other, especially if the gathering is somewhat large. Party games are great ice breakers, enabling guests to move past awkward chitchat moments and share a good laugh or two out of sheer fun.

There are ideas for party games from which you can choose. An example of a good getting-to-know you party game is having each guest bring a picture of themselves when they were babies. Mix up the pictures and have the guests try to match the pictures with their owners. Another nice game would be a scavenger hunt -- gather the guests into groups of two or three and give them a list of baby-related things to find. Another game that's good for a round of laughs is a variation of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey," only instead of a picture of a donkey, use a graphic of a baby in diapers and have the blindfolded participants do their best to place diaper pins in the appropriate spots on the picture.

Whether your guest list is women-only or whether you're having a coed shower doesn't really matter. It's a good idea to plan for around two to three babyshower games, ideally before refreshments are served and certainly before the mother-to-be opens the gifts, so that the guests will have let their hair down and be in a relaxed and congenial mood to enjoy the rest of the shower.
